Stranded on a decaying 19th century lighthouse out at sea, a beautiful and wealthy socialite wants nothing more than to return to the comforts she knows. Yet when a mysterious, intimidating stranger living within the lighthouse makes himself known, her desire to return to an unfulfilling life on the mainland is put on indefinite hold.

Unable to resist his multiple arms and fiery passion, Margaret finds she is desperate to get close to the tormented man/creature who has opened her up to discover and explore her own dark desires before the outside world threatens to intervene.

This is the first novella in an ongoing romantic adventure story.
It contains mature content and is unsuitable for readers under the age of 18.

Be warned that there may be spoilers within my review. If you intend to read this novella and do not wish for spoilers please do not read my review.
If you are interested in this solely for the erotic possibilities then I would personally suggest bypassing it. It's there but it to me it was barely so.
The thing I loved most about this is that the style of writing doesn’t make me feel like I’m reading from the journal of a teenager bemoaning their dramatic life in high school (you have my deepest condolences if you understand what I mean by that) rather than a grown person.

The pacing and flow of the story are pretty good. Given that this is 30+ pages Mer manages to fit a good deal into it without overcrowding the story and thankfully does not drag things on with needless filler until the end of the book to give you a cliffhanger in hopes that you'll buy into the next part, but it is far from completed.
We are thrown right into the story and introduced to the characters via our narrator whose POV we will be experience this story through and get an idea of their personalities as well as a bit of back story.
Margret is unhappy with her marriage to a once charming husband who is careless with money and looking for that investment scheme that will make him rich or at least richer than his loaded wife. Margret informs the reader that he’s a cheating bastard and is trying to find out who his mistress is.
Then we have her friend who is along for the ride to look at a decaying lighthouse miles from land just before a storm for unclear reasons other than her “friendship” to Margret. It should not take anyone more than a second to put two and two together to figure out what’s going on. Sadly for Margret, who reveals all of this information onto us, that is not the case.
Margret’s character is rather likable, she doesn’t come off as a too stupid to live idiot, a naive pushover, the super independent ass kicker, or a complete brat. She’s normal, she has her dumb moments for lacking in foresight but given her situation I can actually find myself forgiving that.
The other characters are one dimensional and at times confusing. This works against the story when it comes to the ‘tentacle lord’ Corwin who barely knows our heroine given the short time they are together but wants her love, bringing to mind that this is Beauty and the Beast only the beast has tentacles and you don't really feel pity or anything for him other than curiosity. I could almost excuse it because of his isolation up to that point but it still comes suddenly, heavily, and overall desperate. Perhaps this is further explained and touched upon in later books but in this instances it’s just too soon.
My issues with this is that although I do like Mer’s style of writing there is indeed more tell than show and at times lacking in the telling in parts where I would need the details. Even the explanation of how he became what he is felt off handed even though we're suppose to read this coming from a person who doesn't even fully understand it himself. I had difficulty putting faces to the people and the surroundings, if not for the book’s cover I could not draw up a decent image for Margret. The only person who I would be able to give some details to is the mysterious Corwin and even those details feel a bit vague. I can understand if the intention was to give as little details as possible so that the reader might be able to project themselves and what they like into the story but it is still overall lacking for a person to fully immerse themselves. This really works against the very few erotic scenes that are present, you could mistakenly blink and skip a line and it's over. Which can be an overall downfall given this is listed as erotica.
It does leave much to be desired, some more details and polishing here and there and this works rather well because regardless I was still entertained and actually edger to see what would happen. For this it earns the 3 stars.

Another issue I find with this is that this book is practicing what many independent publishers are doing and that’s releasing small parts of a bigger book. It feels like we are reading an incomplete story and are merely being charged per chapter as it goes along and are told that we’re reading a ‘series’ or a ‘saga’. This is especially feels true with Mer’s work with every part that is on sale has the same cover art if only with a slight change in color and the same description. I am only grateful that they do not charge much for the other installments and may continue to read the rest if they are bundled together once the series end.

Overall it's flawed but it has potential as a free sample to get your hooked on the rest, and can be entertaining that is granted the other books improve.
